  • tongue piercing

I had been contemplating to get my tongue pierced for some years. The thing that held me back wasn't necessarily the pain, but the fact that it wouldn't look good on me. I had read a lot of piercing experiences so I knew what I would be in for ,if the day would ever come I would walk into the piercing parlour.

One faithful day I was having a drink in a local bar with some friends. The subject of piercings came up, and I said I'd been wanting to get my tongue done. A girlfriend of mine, who had had her tongue pierced a few weeks earlier, told me to totally go for it and that I should worry about looks because it would look just great on me. That was enough motivation for me.

Back home I researched the area for piercing parlours. I texted my friend to ask where he had gotten her tongue pierced. She recommended Tattoo Bob to me, because she had also had her belly button and tragus pierced there. I went to their website and read a bit about the shop and it's history, looked for the number and called them. I made an appointment for next week.

I didn't think much about the actual day during the 8 days preceding it. 2 days before I called mt friend to ask if she could come with, but unfortunately she had to work that day. I asked another friend of me and he was able to come.

I didn't really know what to expect from a piercing parlour since I didn't have any other piercings or tattoos. The room looked very casual yet professional. I could hear a tattoo needle in the background, but the rest of the shop was empty. I walked to the counter and said I'd made an appointment. After filling out some paperwork, I was led into the back room where I sat down in the chair. I was quite nervous by then, by luckily I could have a good laugh with my friend. The room looked very clean and professional, which was good. Deborah talked to me about the procedure and a bit about the swelling and aftercare. I told her I wanted to go through with it and she started to inspect my tongue. She placed a dot in the center, and I had to see in the mirror if I was OK with the spot. It was fine and she put the clamp on my tongue. I felt a little pressure, but it wasn't bad at all. She picked up the needle. I closed my eyes. Take a deep breath in... and o.. ouch! It was done. It was a very quick sting and the pain faded quickly after. I'd heard it feels like biting your tongue, and it does. Not worse, but not better either. She replaced the needle with the titanium stud I'd selected earlier and screwed the ball on top. She checked if it was lined up properly and I got to rinse with some Listerine. I looked in the mirror and was happy with what I saw. I honestly didn't know what I had been afraid of, tongue piercings look good on evryone! She explained the aftercare and gave me a piece of paper where it was all written down. I also got a bottle of mouthwash to rinse with.

When I got home I didn't have much trouble. I could eat a sandwich without too much effort. After dinner time though it started to hurt a little bit and the swelling got worse. The next day I could barely eat so I just ate some soup. It didn't hurt much anymore but it was annoying to have a huge lump of flesh in your mouth. After about 3 days the swelling started going down and I could eat normal food again. I avoided spicy food since that might hurt the wound.

A week later evrything is fine and I'm starting to get annoyed with the long stud, which will be replaced by a shorter one in 6 days. The whole experience wasn't too bad at all and I don't regret it even a little bit. If you're thinking about getting your tongue pierced, do some research and you'll find out it's best to just go for it. The pain is very manageable, but the swelling is a pain in the %^&* afterward. Most of the time the swelling will go down after about 2-3 days, but it can last up to a week if you're unlucky.

Because I was so concerned about looks I asked my friends to tell me how it looked on me. They all said it looked cool, and one friend is even considering getting her own tongue pierced now!

  • Tongue Web

My friends and I were going into Edinburgh yesterday (21.10.09) to take our friend Katy to get her lip pierced as an early birthday present. En route my other friend Catherine decided to get a new ear piercing and I was swithering over a tongue web. When we got to Tribal, Sarah was just leaving but the other piercer, Jared, who had never pierced me before but had pierced Catherine, was in. He was very friendly and was asking what we were interested in. I explained I was interested in getting my tongue web done, but I did not, under any circumstances, want my parents or worse, my boyfriend, to know. Jared was pretty confident that they wouldn't be able to see it though, so after attacking him with many questions, "what would you pierce it with?" "What length would the bar be?" "How is the healing?" "Will my whole tongue swell or just the web?" "Will I have a lisp?" all of which he answered ably, I decided that since he had assured me it couldn't be seen when I spoke, my whole tongue wouldn't swell and I wouldn't get a lisp, I would go for it! I decided for subtlety and cleaning / healing reasons, I would go for a bar as opposed to a captive bead ring.

Although I have other piercings, I always panic and get worked up before hand. Katy went first which most likely made me even more nervous, so, seeing my nerves, Catherine made me go next. So up I hopped onto the bench type thing. Attempt one was with my glasses on and my eyes open and woops! I moved my head away at the last second! Attempt two my head moved back in relation to the needle. So for attempt three, Jared made me put my head against the wall! My tongue was shaking in attempt four though (Yes my tongue!) but finally on attempt five, we got it done! It hurt a bit, but nothing extreme, just a sharp pain then it was over, no hot burning feeling like I had heard, or elongated pain. Oh the relief! I was so relieved when it was done, although I was shaking quite a bit!

Then came the difficult bit, getting the jewellery in! This bit was the worst as, a) I had to keep my tongue in the air and as far forward as possible, and b) the needle shifted in my mouth and poked my cheek – ouch! Once the bar was in he had to try to get the very small, very fiddly ball on the end, and make sure it was very tightly on so it didn't fall off in my mouth, which of course, lead to more holding my tongue in the air. Finally he managed to get the ball on and I could put my tongue down, yay! After Catherine got her ear done, all three of us paid for our new piercings and were given after care sheets with our particular piercings highlighted on it. I was advised to use sea salt soak or anti-bacterial, alcohol free mouthwash after every meal and to be very stringent on my oral hygiene. I was also told that I should avoid smoking (not that I do anyway!), avoid oral contact and use ice for swelling.

That night, the swelling on my tongue web was minimal as was pain, although I did take ibuprofen straight after it was done, as I always do with piercings, however I didn't take anymore that night. I managed to eat with little difficulty that night (curly fries and chicken dippers followed by angel delight) which Jared had said I would be able to do, and only to avoid salty, spicy or vinegary foods as they would sting, and possibly blow my cover! When I got home, I chatted to my mum quite a bit, but she didn't notice (thank God!) and then when I saw my dad, neither did he! Phew! I also managed hot orange and a lindt chocolate no bother.

When I got up this morning, I noticed my tongue web had swollen to the entire bar length! It is a little bit more painful today, but not too bad, and was in fact easier to eat than yesterday as they bar was not moving which yesterday felt like I had a bit of food trapped under my tongue – very off putting! This morning though, my pancakes were no bother and so far, brushing my teeth or using my Oral B (the mouth wash suggested to me by Sarah and Jared at Tribal) has not affected my piercing or made it sting. I'm not brave enough to attempt brushing the bar yet, and am slightly worried about plaque building up, but I'm hopeful that before this happens, the pain will have subsided enough to brush the bar!

Overall, this piercing, although still very, very young, has been great! No accidental glimpses or a lot of pain. So if you fancy an easy to hide, fun, low pain piercing, go for your tongue web!

  • Tongue Torture

Blame it on Scary Spice, but I have wanted my tongue pierced since I was a little girl. I held off most of my piercing plans in high school though because I cheered, and cheerleading plus piercings can be a dangerous combo (ask my ex-naval piercing). Naturally, when I graduated high school and my cheerleading days were behind me, I decided it was time to make up for lost time. I talked my friends into going with me to get pierced so I could finally get a tongue piercing. When I went into the shop, the lady working at the counter asked to see my tongue before I picked out jewelry. She told me that my tongue web was kind of long and my tongue would have to be pierced close to the tip to accommodate. This gave me second thoughts and I ended up just getting my tragus pierced instead. I loved my tragus piercing, but it certainly didn't satisfy my desire for a tongue ring.

Four years down the road and many piercings later, I decided to give it another go. My sisters and I were on South Street for the day, so we decided to stop by Infinite and give it a shot. I had gotten around eight piercings there already so I knew they did quality work. I told them what I wanted, and then filled out my papers. I picked out a 10g barbell and I had a seat with my sisters. Within minutes, they called me back to one of the rooms for my piercing. I was familiar with the procedure so I was very at ease. First, my piercer cleaned off my tongue to prepare. She then marked my tongue on the top and bottom and let me check it out to make sure it was centered, and to my liking. I had her move it back a little further so it wouldn't be quite as close to the tip of my tongue. She decided to do it slightly off to the side of my tongue web to allow it to be pierced further back. After the marking was done, she carefully held my tongue and stabbed the needle up through the bottom. I didn't even really feel it until it came out through the top of my tongue, and even then it was barely anything. She quickly inserted the jewelry and I was done. I checked out my new jewelry in the mirror and was quite pleased. It was all over so fast that it didn't really sink in immediately. I awkwardly pulled my tongue back in my mouth and was off on my merry way.

My sisters and I stupidly decided to eat immediately after the piercing so I got my first try at eating with my new tongue ring. It was no fun and I was already starting to wonder if this was a good idea. It took me forever just to eat a few french fries and I kept biting the barbell. The next day I was back to work and very miserable. My tongue was very swollen and it hurt to do anything. All of the talking I had to do at work probably didn't help either. Even while doing nothing, I was incredibly aware of the pain in my mouth. It was also really hurting my tongue web if I moved my tongue too much tongue rings. I was worried that even after it healed it would still be painful because of the proximity to my tongue web and I was really starting to consider just taking it out. I took Advil as often as I could to keep myself sane, but it still felt like torture. My sisters (both with pierced tongues) reassured me that it would feel better in a few days, but I had a hard time believing th em, especially when it seemed to hurt worse by the day.

Despite how annoying it was, I decided to persevere. I had wanted my tongue pierced forever and I wasn't about to lose it now after waiting so long. I kept up with my Advil and made sure to be vigilant with salt water rinses after every meal. After about a week my tongue was just about back to normal. Eating was still difficult, but it was definitely getting better and I lost my lisp after a couple of days too. It didn't take a long time to heal, but it felt like an eternity. Of all of my many piercings, it was definitely the least enjoyable healing process. I'm glad that I stuck it out though because now I love it. I am barely aware of it anymore and I don't have any lingering pain with my tongue web. I'm glad that I went back to give it a second try and I didn't give up on it. The end result is worth the few days of torture.

  • My beloved Cloak

Today is 2.6.08, one day after my 19th Birthday and I must say I'm dermaЯen ьberglьcklich - I kцnnt me a second hole in the abdomen look! :)

I weiЯ any event that piercing was not my last, so on to new outrages!
  • Standard eyebrow, and I regret nothing

It is already very long ago. I always wanted to have piercing, but my parents, two erzkonservative SpieЯer as I like to call them, always thought: children and their piercing, so you not only disfigure your schцnen Kцrper, but you make so that our whole family lдcherlich. What a login Blцdsinn I always thought only. And so began the long wait. Since my 13th Year of life, I waited with impatience that until I finally volljдhrig will. About the years joined the theme of "piercing" more and more into the background until the idea endgьltig disappeared from my head. But should it have been because now? Surely not, otherwise I do not wьrde now write my personal experience. When I am back after a long time with my old school clique met (because I was still 19) erzдhlten we natьrlich what we have seen everything. Sometime times then came the issue of "piercing" to the language. Proudly showed me my friend Bernard his tongue piercing. He had to get its 18 birthday, and also our former Mauerblьmchen Caroline seemed to come to his taste. They had left Nasenflьgel the tongue, the lower lip, right eyebrow, both nipples and belly Pierce leave. Ch I was really shocked when I after such a long time for the first time saw again. I thought to myself at the moment, "Oh my God, this can not be Caro." Natьrlich wuЯte my clique, that I have in the past times login piercings've very interested. Bernhard asked: "And Mark is probably nothing from your plan has to let you or Pierce?" I answered him that I feel somewhat abandoned by the idea am, but me a piercing been wьrde irritating, but I am afraid of an infection hдtte, and usually no needle can see. Caro and Bernhard erklдrten me but then, that they are the piercing with a dermatologist hдtten make Grazer, who undergo additional training in this area, and bar them from the process itself almost nothing hдtten noticed, and their piercings all together very well and they are healed no problems with infections and co had. I asked the two for the address of the doctor and asked them to accompany me there. So I called on nдchsten day in practice, the receptionist was very friendly and gave me an appointment the same login nдchsten the day scrumper. The night before I could hardly sleep before the excitement, because I myself was not even sure what a piercing login now I have wanted. As the morning nдchsten Bernhard and Caro before my Haustьre laughed they were full of joy to me and asked me: "And weiЯ the zukьnftige member of the club because of gepiercten already, where he now wants to have one?" Yes it is not a joke: "Until tomorrow, where I knew the date I had still not exactly where I wanted to have the piercing. But just as spontaneously as the idea that with the implementation of piercing now, then was also my decision, which is now piercing should be. I answered: "I mцchte my left eyebrow Pierce leave." On her assenting nod, I could see that with the idea they also were pleased. So we broke at the studio. When we arrived there were equal, we received very friendly, because the receptionist, Caro and Bernhard knew that already, since both their piercings also have to be there. I still had a half-hour sit in the waiting room, there are two people were tuned in front of me, and I was always nervцser. If everything go well? Will it hurt me? Do I get a Betдubung? Ask me all through the head. Plцtzlich then the sound of the intercom: "Mr. Z ***** please enter". So I went in, and he begrьЯte me even hцflicher than the receptionist did. Then he asked me: "Well Mr. Z *****, where they want to have the piercing?" I was very excited and once brought zunдchst no word out. He told me: "Do not worry, this is not bad, they are calm." I insist: "I love my wьrde left Aъgenbraue Pierce leave." First klдrte me to the doctor, as the whole of equip, and then he asked me whether I have any allergies Eisspray or against a certain type of metal hдtte. I said that I am not aware wдre. Then he saw my eyebrow and then marked with a pencil the spot where the piercing will be crisp. Then he asked me, me in a kind Gynдkologensessel to contact him. The doctor tied a mouthguard to, disinfected his Hдnde, withdrew about rubber gloves, and then picked from a Pдckchen barriers with the needle with which he pricked the piercing lip labret. So then went off: He sдuberte the first place where the piercing should be crisp, betдubte the appropriate place with Eisspray, and then said to me: "So now go off, which can now be a little bit hurt." But at the moment when I zusammenzuckte lдchelte and he said: "Everything ok Mr. Z *****, the needle is already through, I now fдdle the ring. In that moment I noticed a huge stone from the heart. I had it So ьberstanden. The whole is now 3 months ago and the piercing has healed very well. As I Resьmee mцchte any of this piercing, and also recommend this doctor. Login all in Graz and living environment: In this practice, it is absolutely clean and sterile. And the doctor works perfectly clean and professional. No matter how many people repeatedly Дrzte grumble about the piercing sting, this doctor is absolutely recommendable! Even the piercing is easy to bite and heals very quickly.
